Winona County Sheriff Dave Brand identiified the man as 27-year-old Justin Pagel of St. Charles.
Brand said Pagel remains in a Rochester hospital after being shot twice with bean bags by Olmsted County deputies who were called to a Dover residence.
Brand said Pagel allegedly assaulted a family member at his St. Charles residence about 1:45 a.m. Monday and then fled.
Two Olmsted County deputies were called to the Dover residence of another family member and discovered Pagel underneath a trailer. Brand said Pagel rushed the two officers and was shot by both officers with bean bag guns. One of the bean bags struck him in the chin.
Pagel was taken to a Rochester hospital to be treated for his injuries. His condition was not known.
Brand said Winona County authorities are seeking felony domestic assault charges against Pagel because of his previous criminal history.
The two Olmsted County officers were placed on administrative leave..
