The American Red Cross says it was called to assist in five separate house fires over the weekend throughout southern Minnesota including one in Winona and one near Lewiston.
15 people living in homes in Winona, near Lewiston, Rushmore, Kenyon, and Henderson were all displaced by the fires. No one was injured in the blazes.
Assistant Winona Fire Chief Britt Hendrickson said firefighters were called to a residence on East Broadway where a Christmas tree caught fire. Eight occupants of the single family residence were provided a temporary residence overnight by the Red Cross.
Lewiston firefighters battled a house fire along County Road 25 north of Lewiston on Friday. The couple who owned the home also received Red Cross assistance. Their home was totally destroyed.
Red Cross volunteers were at all five fires helping people with their emergency needs.
