Red Cross Worker

Two months after Superstorm Sandy struck the east coast a St. Charles woman has been deployed by the American Red Cross to the disaster area.

The Red Cross says Joellen Barak will be assisting in public affairs. Her duties will include writing press releases, updating social media, and maintaining communication with media resources in the disaster area.

This is Barak's first national deployment.

The Red Cross continues to provide food shelter, relief supplies, and comfort to the many people still struggling as communities begin to rebuild.

A total of over 16,200 volunteers, including 50 from Minnesota...about a half dozen of those from the Winona area...have been mobilized to get help to people.

The Red Cross says it has provided over 9,200,000 meals and snacks, and has connected with 93,000 families to help determine needs and provide access to resources.

Donations are still being accepted at www.redcross.org or by calling 1-800-RED CROSS.
