County Board--Mikes

After years of complaints over difficulty hearing at public meetings, Buffalo County is installing microphones for every county board member.

The board voted 9 to 3 to buy a audio system for $13,000 to expand a limited mike system installed back in 1988.  The county boardroom also serves as host to many public hearings and committee sessions where people complained of trouble hearing speakers not using the front podium.

County supervisors Tom Taylor of Naples, Fay Passow of Belvidere and Steve Weiss of Gilmanton voted against spending money for microphones all around.  They said the county could not afford the purchase and advised supervisors to speak up louder so that people can hear them.

Supervisors will have on-and-off switches for controlling when their mikes are active.
