The public comment period on the environmental reviews for two proposed frac sand mines in Saratoga Township has been extended for two weeks while the comment period for a third site will begin in about one week.
Winona County Planning and Environmental Services Director Jason Gilman told the County Board the public now has until February 6th, to offer comments on the proposed Dabblestein and Yoder sites instead of January 23rd.
Meanwhile, the 30 day comment period on the Nisbit site, also in Saratoga Township, will begin on January 14th.
In addition, Gilman said, there are an additional three more proposed frac sand mines in Fillmore County near the Saratoga Township line.
Once the comment period on the Winona County sites is over the county will be required to hold a public hearing on those sites before deciding whether to grant the proposals a permit to begin operations. Comments can be submitted to the Winona Planning Department and are posted on the county's website.
