State Representative Gene Pelowski says Tuesday may have been the first day of the legislature but he has been kept busy with meetings since last week.
                
Pelowski is the new chair of the House Higher Education and Finance Policy committee and says discussions have already begun about solving the state's 1-point-1 billion dollar budget deficit and education funding.

Pelowski said he has already had budget meetings with the University of Minnesota president, a university regent, the union that represents faculty at the state universities, and even a student group.
