Two vacancies on the Buffalo County Board have drawn contested races in special elections scheduled April 2.
Lou Anne Roby and Darrell Rognholt of Mondovi filed candidacy in supervisory Dist. 6 that includes the 3rd Ward in Mondovi.
Mary Anne McMillan Urell and Errol Doerr are running for a vacant seat in Dist. 14 that includes the towns of Cross and Buffalo.
Rather than appoint new supervisors to fill vacancies in those districts, the county board decided to open the seats for special election.
The winners of those races will be elected to one-year terms and come up again for election to regular two-year terms in April 2014.
A realignment of district seats implemented in April reduced the size of the county board from 16 to 14 members. The board is currently operating with 12 elected supervisors.
