School Board

The Winona Area Public School Board Thursday received an update on secondary student achievement efforts.

Winona Senior High School Principal, Kelly Halverson, told the board that compared to Trimester One of the 2011 school year, failing math scores are down in three the four high school grades.
The only class with more failures in math this year so far is the 12th grade, with 14 more failures, 40, than last year at this time. In total, there have been 44 fewer failing marks so far this year.

Halverson says one reason for the positive numbers is guided study hall twice a week which helps students get specialized instruction.

The board welcomed three new members, Brian Zeller, Jeanne Nelson, and Tina Lehnertz, who were all sworn in.

The board also unanimously elected a new chair, Muhamed Elhindi (El-hen-dee) and Ben Barratto was elected vice chair this year.
