KWNO--75th Anniversary

KWNO-AM radio celebrated its diamond anniversary on Wednesday.  The station officially went on the air on January 16th,1938, and was the first local radio station in Winona, located at 12-30 on the AM dial.

It remained Winona's only AM station until current sister station, KAGE-AM went on the air in 1957.  KWNO also operated an FM station until the early 1950s and again beginning in the 1990's.

One of the original co-owners of the station was the late Rod Hurd who was one of 38 men and women inducted into the Minnesota Museum of Broadcasting Hall of Fame in 2001.  Hurd was also one of 26 people previously honored as Pioneers of Broadcasting in Minnesota.
