Saint Mary's Women Knock Off Ranked Foe

The Saint Mary’s women’s basketball team pulled out a huge win on Wednesday night knocking off 12th ranked St. Thomas and in the process put themselves in a four-way tie for second place, one game behind Concordia.
The Tommies jumped out early 15-2 thanks to some heavy full court pressure and led by nine at halftime. Saint Mary’s coach Mandy Pearson says her team just needed to be poised in the second half and hold onto the ball on offense and not go for so many steals on defense.

The Cardinals held on to the ball in the second half and pounded the ball inside to their post duo of Jamie Stefely and Courtney Euerle.  Stefely finished with 23 points and 9 rebounds and Euerle had 14 points and 4 blocks. Pearson says that was the game plan was to get it into the post where they felt they had an advantage.   Senior guard Jessica Thone nearly had a triple-double with 10 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists. The Cardinals shot 57 percent from the field in the second half while their defense held the Tommies to 26 percent shooting.

Saint Mary’s improves to 14-3 overall and 11-3 in the MIAC.
