The Trempealeau CountyTimes reports the state maintains that wording in an $800,000 a year 2010 bond referendum forces the district to compound the amount adding $800,000 to the levy each year.
The school district maintains its intention was to levy the 800-thousand dollars each of the five years.
Because the state would not retreat from its stance, the district has decided to stick with the $800,000 levy each year.
District residents are being asked by the district to contact state lawmakers and the Department of Public Instruction to get the DPI's stance to change.
