The 2013 Gold Cup World ice boating championship is being held in Lake City this year, drawing over 100 sailors from around the country and even 19 from Europe.
Lake Pepin was chosen for it's combination of hard, fast ice and lack of snow covering although, according to the Post-Bulletin, sites in Wisconsin and Michigan were also under consideration until last week.
Day One of racing was held Sunday and the event runs through Saturday, February 2nd.
