Frac Meeting--Dayton

Governor Mark Dayton met last Monday with lawmakers from southeastern Minnesota and representatives of state agencies dealing with the controversial frac sand mining issue.

One of those attending was State Senator Jeremy Miller of Winona who said the possibility of state involvement was discussed but he wants to look at all sides of the issue.

Miller says a lot of concerns have been voiced about big government overreaching and local governments maintaining their control over their own lands when it comes to frac sand mining.  State Senator Matt Schmit of Red Wing told the Minneapolis Star Tribune this week he thinks legislation on the frac sand issue could be introduced within the next few of weeks.

A possible statewide moratorium and generic environmental review of mines has been discussed previously.
