Farmland Assessments

Winona County Administrator Duane Hebert says record prices paid for farmland in the county in 2012 will mean higher taxes for owners of ag land as assessed values are adjusted upward to reflect the new reality.

Hebert says it wont be a case of instant cause and effect...that it could take several years for higher market values to be reflected in higher assessed values...but it's coming down the pike.

The good news, according to Hebert, is that owners of non-farm property may see tax relief as more of the tax burden is shouldered by the owners of higher valued ag land in the county.
