Deputy Police Chief Tom Williams said officers were called to the Morey Hall room of Shane Thomas Anderson of Mankato and conducted a search but turned up nothing.
The officers were called back a short time later by WSU Security and this time they discovered inside a safe 5.1 grams of a substance that tested positive for marijuana. Williams said they also found a digital scale and $150 in cash in the safe.
None of the items had been in the safe during the first search. Anderson was initially jailed on fifth degree possession of a controlled substance.
The County Attorney's office is reviewing the case for possible charges of possession with intent to sell since police also discovered text messages on a cell phone that indicated there may have been attempts to set up drug deals.
