The board liked option 5 which would add 30 minutes each day, with WAPS secondary schools and Cotter starting classes at 7:20 a.m. and dismissal at 2:20 p.m.
That option's estimated cost is just over $60,000 but does not include any transportation costs, which the other 4 options had.
School Board member Jeanne Nelson pointed out that the district is already paying for the 300 hours maximum instructional hours and only getting between 265 and 270 hours now in the Middle and High Schools.
Board member Steve Schild voiced concerns over a study that indicated that older students often don't do as well early in the day but do better later in the morning.
The agenda item will be brought back to the next school board meeting. In order for any changes to be made for the 2013-2014 school year, the board would have to approve a change no later than their 1st meeting in March.
