The Winona State men’s and Saint Mary’s women’s basketball teams both continued their push towards conference titles over the weekend. The Warriors beat Minnesota-Duluth on Saturday 89-73, one day after losing a heartbreaker to St. Cloud State 79-78. WSU is 21-4 and tied for first place in the NSIC with Minnesota State-Mankato at 15-3. This sets up a showdown for Saturday night in McCown Gymnasium when Winona State plays host to Minnesota State-Mankato.
The Saint Mary’s women beat Bethel Saturday 65-56 and stay in a tie for second place in the MIAC with Saint Benedict. The Cardinals are 16-4 in conference play and a game behind Concordia. Wednesday night Saint Mary’s will battle for second place when they host Saint Benedict.
Also Saturday, the Winona State women beat Minnesota-Duluth 78-64 and the Saint Mary’s men lost to Bethel 94-46.
The Winona High boys’ and girls’ basketball teams played Mankato East on Saturday. The boys beat the Cougars 73-67 to improve to 7-5 in the Big Nine Conference. The Winhawk girls lost to 8th ranked Mankato East 67-51.
The Saint Mary’s hockey teams both lost to Gustavus on Saturday. The men lost 5-2 and the women fell 6-1.
