University Housing

University housing rules in Wisconsin are changing.

This fall, the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse will allow male and female students to live together in suite-style dorms. Residency director Nick Nicklaus says the university will also provide space for lesbian, gay and transgendered couples.

UW-Madison is offering a new living option next semester called Open House: Gender Learning Community. The option is open to students of all backgrounds and sexual identities who will participate in weekly seminars.

Wisconsin Public Radio News says the UW Board of Regents prohibits co-ed housing, so each university needs approval from its chancellor.
