The Goodview City Council Monday voted 4 to 1 to return a federal grant that would have helped pay for constructing some new sidewalk near the Goodview school.
City Administrator Dan Matejka says the council changed their minds about keeping the $283,000 Safe Routes to School grant for the project.
The project would have involved portions of 8th street and 44th and 51st Avenues.
Matejka says even though the project cost would not have been assessed to adjacent property owners, the council had received quite a bit of public feedback that the project wasn't needed.
Councilmember Michael Alexander cast the lone dissenting vote.
In other business, the Goodview City Council instructed staff to bring back more information on the possibility of extending city utilities to the 63rd Avenue and 5th Street areas. At some point a public information meeting will be scheduled to get feedback from homeowners on the matter.
