Representatives of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system go before the House Higher Education Finance and Policy Committee this week to explain how annual state funding has been used and where the money goes.
The Committee is chaired by DFL'er Gene Pelowski of Winona who says a variety of issues will be examined closely such as the campuses, administration costs, plus tuition and fees in order to get a better accounting of the state funding.
The committee has completed a series of hearings looking at the University of Minnesota's budget and Pelowski says the results are that the U may need much more legislative oversight of its budget than it's getting.
Pelowski says five hearings have been held so far on Higher Ed funding and he expects many more before his committee puts together a proposed funding bill.
