With President Obama this week calling for the federal minimum wage to be increased to $9 an hour Democrats in the Minnesota House want the state's minimum wage to go even higher.
DFL Representative Melissa Hortman of Brooklyn Park, who co-authored legislation introduced Wednesday, says the proposed increase to $9.50 an hour in Minnesota is needed for working families.
Hortman says the bill would also expand child care access, and enhance family-friendly tax credits. Minnesota currently has a minimum wage of $6.15 an hour while the federal minimum wage is $7.25.
