DFL Senator Matt Schmit of Red Wing says his Energy and Environment Committee will take testimony from state officials dealing with the issue, and a variety of citizens, local officials, and industry representatives.
Schmit says the hearing will be followed up with a second public hearing on February 26th by the same committee where specific bills will be addressed.
Schmit says specific bill details will be determined later in the week and could include provisions for a statewide moratorium and a requirement for a generic environmental impact study on proposed sand mines.
