Cotter Girls Pull Off Upset in Sub-Section Tournament



The Cotter girls’ basketball team pulled off an upset last night in the Section 1AA East Sub-Section tournament knocking off top seed Chatfield in overtime 61-54. The Ramblers trailed for much of the game until taking the lead with five minutes to go in the second half. Cotter led 52-47 with a minute to go but the Gophers knocked down a three-pointer and made two free throws to send the game into overtime.

Kelsey Stenzel led the way with 18 points and Paige Gernes had 15 points and 9 assists. The Ramblers defense was key forcing the Gophers into 28 turnovers. Cotter improves to 13-14 on the season and they will now take on Caledonia on Saturday at 11:00 at the Rochester Civic Center Auditorium. The Warriors also went to overtime before beating Plainvew-Elgin-Millville last night 64-61. Saturday’s Cotter game can be heard on AM 1230 KWNO and online at winonaradio.com.
