Saint Mary's Basketball Teams Pull In Big Conference Honors

The honors are rolling in for the Saint Mary’s women’s and men’s basketball teams. Saint Mary’s women’s coach Mandy Pearson has been named the MIAC Coach of the Year after leading the Cardinals to their best season in nearly 30 years. Saint Mary’s went 22-5 this year and finished second in the MIAC with an 18-4 record.
For the second year in a row seniors Jessica Thone and Jamie Stefely were named first team All-MIAC. Stefely led the Cardinals in scoring averaging 13.5 points per game while also grabbing 6.5 rebounds. Thone averaged 12.5 points and she went over the 1,000 point mark this season.
Junior Courtney Euerle was named honorable mention All-MIAC and was a repeat performer on the All-Defensive Team. Freshman Bridget Pethke was named to the All-First Year Team.
Senior Michael Burfeind, a Lewiston native, was named first team all-conference for the second straight season. Burfeind averaged 16 points per game this season and went over 1,000 points for his career. St. Charles native Will Swiggum was named to the All-First Year Team after averaging 10 points and 7 rebounds this season.
