Blomsness has been with the "Y" for 39 years having served as its executive director for the past 28 years. Blomsness will continue with the YMCA in a voluntary capacity and the Board of Directors will potentially engage him with future special projects that will help further strengthen the YMCA.
The Board of Directors Executive Committee has appointed an Executive Search Committee and will be working together with the YMCA of the USA to secure new leadership and continue to advance the Winona Family YMCA as a strong community asset.
The retirement of Andy Blomsness comes as the YMCA continues to look at the impact of the Highway 43 bridge construction and rehab project. In a December letter to local news media, Blomsness said strategic planning for the "Y" began over two years ago when plans for the bridge project were announced.
He said the board of directors has been focusing on the very challenging process for relocation and collaborating with the community to make sure the "Y" remains a vital part of the Winona Community.
