Winona State University is seeking to partner with the city on a new field that the college could use for national tournaments.
Community Services Director, Chad Ubl, says there were no cost estimates discussed during the council's pre-meeting with WSU officials but the university did get the green light to continue working towards a formal design of the proposed field.
The new baseball field would be located just east of "Field One" near the Jaycee Pavilion.
The costs of the shared facility would be split between the city and WSU, although no specifics were discussed.
Ubl says the next step will be getting some solid numbers for the cost of the project and WSU will bring back a formal design model to the council. He says the "optimistic" timeline would be for groundwork to begin this fall so play on the field could begin in the spring of 2014.
