The ice on Lake Pepin remains pretty thick as the watch begins to see when the commercial shipping season on the Mississippi River begins.
The U-S Army Corps of Engineers took another round of ice measurements Wednesday and found the ice is 20-inches thick at six different locations along Lake Pepin. It's 19 inches thick at seven other locations.
The water is open at the foot of the Lake at Reads Landing.
Lock and Dam Number Six at Trrempealeau has re-opened for the season. It was closed down for winter repairs and cleaning.
A spokesperson at Lock Six said there are no towboats south of Trempealeu heading for the Winona commercial harbor.
Tows usually gauge their attempts to open the season by how much ice remains on Lake Pepin......
