The March Foodshare food drive has nearly reached the halfway point with $5,600 and some 1,600 pounds of food being collected at Winona Volunteer Services.
Executive Director Sandra Burke says there is still plenty of time to donate both food and cash. She is also looking for any local businesses or citizens who want to help out with collections.
Drop barrels are out at some food stores and churches in the community, but Burke says others wanting a barrel just need to make a request.
The food drive locally actually runs through about the first week of April with a goal of collecting 33,000 pounds of food.
The local Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts will hold their annual door-to-door food collection in Winona, Goodview, and Minnesota City on Saturday, March 23rd. Just leave a bag of non-parishable food on your door step by 9:00 a.m.
