Police Chief Paul Bostrack identified the driver as Jessica Kidder Lewis. He said Lewis lost control on some loose sand and ice and crashed into the pole just before 3:00 p.m. Thursday.
That resulted in the pole, which was snapped, being replaced. There was no loss of power reported.
Winona city officials said Xcel Energy was replacing the pole Friday resulting in Garvin Heights Road being closed to traffic for about eight hours. Residents had to find alternate routes for getting up and down the hill. The road was expected to be closed to traffic until about 2:00 p.m. Friday.
