An accident involving a logging truck closed State Highway 35 in Buffalo County for 6 1/2 hours Friday afternoon.
The Buffalo County Sheriff's Department reports 57-year old Edward Appel of Taylor, Wisconsin was driving northbound on STH 35, just north of County Highway Y Y, when he observed something fall from the rear of his truck.
As he was looking at the passenger side mirror, Appel failed to negotiate a curve in the highway and went on to the northbound shoulder. The truck hit the guard rail and bridge rail which caused the fully loaded logging truck to cross both lanes of traffic and spin out of control.
The truck rolled over and ended up on it's passenger side, bursting into flames. A semi driver passing by stopped and helped remove Appel from the truck and attemped to extinguish the flames.
Appel was taken to Winona Health for head injuries and was treated and released.
The accident, which was reported at 1:03 p.m. Friday, remains under investigation.
