A Lewiston-Altura 5th grader has a unique way to raise money to help Winona County pay for its new K9 officer "Cleo."
Harlie William has been making special bracelets out of parachute cord and selling them or 8-dollars. Sheriff Dave Brand has accepted $100 from Harlie so far. Harlie said she got the idea from her dad, John, to make the bracelets and decided herself to donate the proceeds for the new dog.
Cleo, who is 19 months old, came to Winona County to replace "Blitz" who, after nine years of service, is now in retirement. The new dog cost $20,000 including special training, according to its handler, Deputy Adam Carlson.
Major funds for the new K9 came from private donations and from local and area businesses.
