The Winona County Board of Commissioners will be asked next Tuesday, April 2nd, to determine if a full environmental impact statement should be conducted on the proposed Nisbit sand mine and quarry in Saratoga Township, or whether a conditional use permit should be issued.
The County Planning Commission took public input on the proposal last week and is recommending that no EIS be required. The board will review information on the proposal provided by a completed environmental assessment worksheet before deciding what should be done.
The permit is the final hurdle before the proposal becomes the first frac sand mine operation in Winona County. The board meets Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. at the County Government Center.
