Winona Police said a 24 year old Winona man was jailed early Sunday after he admitted to discharging a firearm outside his westend residence.
Deputy Police Chief Tom Williams said Travis Jeffrey Brierley is facing a felony count of reckless operation of a firearm, plus other counts of reckless discharge of a firearm, and discharging a firearm while having an alcohol content over ).10%.
Williams said Brierley was near his residence in the 800 block of west Fifth Street abut 1:20 a.m. Sunday when he got into a discussion with two other males. Brierley told police when one of the males threatened to kill him and had a gun, Brierley pulled out his own handgun and fired a warning shot into the ground.
Williams said Brierley himself reported the incident and when police arrived they found a 45-caliber handgun in Brierley's residence along with a loaded magazine next to it. Williams said Brierley had a permit to carry a concealed weapon that was issued by Scott County.
Brierley also had a blood alcohol content of 0.14% when he was brought to the Law Enforcement Center. No injuries were reported. The other two males fled the area after the shot was fired.
