A three-county Red Cross Shelter Drill held over the weekend in Lake City has been termed a success.
35 Red Cross volunteers and 30 community members enacted a scenario at Lake City High School that allowed the Red Cross to practice what to do in case of an emergency with an evacuation.
The participants came from the Winona, Wabasha, and Goodhue County chapter.
There was a large 'mock-fire' in a multi unit apartment in which all of the residents had to be evacuated and relocated the the shelter. Community members were given a specific role to play and brought specific issues for the volunteers at the shelter to deal with.
Diane Thompson, Red Cross Emergency Services Coordinator for the Winona, Wabasha.Goodhue Chapter, said the drill went smoothly. She said the organization is well prepared for a real emergency.
