Representative Greg Davids says a new water usage fee would hurt homeowners, farmers, and especially cities. Republican Steve Drazkowski told fellow lawmakers the additional spending is not necessary
Davids says the bill contains $300,000 for locating bees next to the state's trail system...and also calls for the hiring of 125 people - 100 of whom would be in the DNR - to monitor and enforce groundwater laws and other environmental regulations. There's also $300,000 for a new restroom on Crane Lake, and $26,000 to publicize the state's critical habitat license plate system.
There are additional fees on lake property owners, mining permits, and recycling programs for paint, carpet, and batteries - programs that are already in place.
