Don't be alarmed if you see some low-flying airplanes in the skies over Winona County in the next several days
Winona County and the City of Winona have contracted to have high resolution aerial photography flown for all of Winona County. This imagery, which is used by Emergency Management, Law Enforcement, Planning and numerous other governmental agencies, as well as citizens and businesses in the area, was last flown in 2008.
Pictometry International will have 2 to 3 aircraft flying out of La Crosse. They will be flying at elevations of 3,000 - 5,000 feet and anticipate that it will take 4-5 days to cover the entire county. The work was scheduled to be done last year but the early Spring caused trees to leaf out before the flight could occur. This year our late snows have been a deterrent to flying.
The planes are prepared to start flying as soon as the ground is free of snow and the skies are clear.
