Red Cross Busy Year

2013 has been a busy year for the American Red Cross in Southern Minnesota. Residential fires have caused Red Cross staff and volunteers to open 100 cases in the first 100 days of 2013.

A case is opened for every household affected by a fire or other disaster, and it allows the Red Cross to provide help with that household's immediate emergency needs.

The Southern Minnesota Region of the Red Cross covers the southern half of the state, from border to border, and has multiple volunteer teams throughout the region who are prepared to respond to disasters every day. It is rare, however, to respond to disasters the equivalent of once per day.
The region assisted in 97 disaster events in all of 2012.
