Levve Park Committee

The Levee Park Redevelopment Committee met Monday and started laying out an outline process for the University of Minnesota College of Design to assist in refurbishing the levee.

Assistant City Planner Carlos Espinosa says the college's Center for Changing Landscapes (CCL) will send Co-Director Mary Vogel and Assistant Professor Matt Tucker to Winona once a month to work on the project. A CCL graduate student will also be hired to help a couple days at a time.

The committee plans to reach out to Winona State University, Southeast Technical College and Saint Mary's University to see if they have interest in becoming involved.

Espinosa says they are all tremendous assets to the community and the committee would love to involve them in the process.
The committee also received a recap of Saturday's Earth Day events at Levee Park. The Park and Recreation Department estimated a crowd of 1,500 to 1,800 attended the activities at the levee throughout the day.

The committee will meet again in May and work on a schedule and a time line with milestones to be targeted.
