Winona County Sheriff Dave Brand said 66 year old Fred Peterson was demonstrating the .38 Special Smith and Wesson handgun to his wife when it discharged striking a finger on his left hand. Peterson was treated at Winona Health and then transferred to St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester where he underwent surgery to repair the finger.
Brand said Peterson had been cleaning the weapon was showing his wife how to draw the gun from a holster when it accidentally discharged. The incident happened April 25th in Peterson's home located near Stockton.
Peterson teaches conceal and carry gun classes for Winona County residents.
