As Winona authorities continue to investigate a sexual assault involving a 23-year-old woman in her own residence, Police Chief Paul Bostrack issued an advisory to residents to keep doors locked and windows shut at night.
Authorities said the woman awoke in her bedroom about 5:00 a.m. last Thursday to find a man with a knife at the foot of her bed. He assaulted her for about five minutes and then fled with her cellphone.
The woman managed to notify someone on Facebook and, in turn, that person called police.
Bostrack said police have been getting reports from residents who have had screens cut, doors possibly messed with, and lawn furniture moved around.
Bostrack declined to say if they have any suspects as the investigation continues.
