Winona High and Cotter Baseball Teams Pull Out One Run Wins

The Winona High baseball team pulled out a 5-4 win Tuesday over Rochester John Marshall in eight innings for their fifth straight win. The Winhawks trailed 2-0 heading into the top of the seventh and then scored four runs to take the lead. The Rockets tied it up with two runs in the bottom of the seventh but the Winhawks scored on an error in the eighth to get the win. Garrett Block went 2 for 4 with a pair of RBI while Chris Hansen added two hits. Dan Kronebusch pitched two innings to get the win.
Winona High improves to 8-3 overall and they are 8-3 in the Big Nine Conference.
Cotter beat La Crescent 3-2 for their first win over the Lancers since 2008. The Ramblers had lost to La Crescent 11 straight times since beating them in the 2008 sub-section playoffs. John DeMarais was 2 for 3 with a RBI and Dan Karnick also had two hits. Josh Forst pitched a complete game and got the win. Cotter improves to 8-6 overall and 7-6 in the HVL.
In area baseball, Arcadia swept G-E-T 6-4 and 5-3 and Rushford-Peterson lost to Dover-Eyota 12-10.
