Lewiston Sirens

The City of Lewiston is without two of its three weather emergency sirens and is asking its residents to register with the Winona County 'Code Red' system which notifies residents by telephone.
A new siren has been ordered to cover the entire city of Lewiston but it is expected to take three to five weeks before it is delivered.  Repairs to the existing warning system are also planned until the new siren is installed.
Winona County Emergency Management has placed Lewiston on the Code Red system for weather warnings which is not typically used for weather warnings.  The system will send a call to everyone in the 911 database when there is a weather warning until the emergency siren warning system is operational.
Because the 911 database may not have the most current phone numbers, residents and businesses in Lewiston are encouraged to sign up for the system at the Winona County website where they can register their phone numbers including cellphone numbers.
Those without internet access can register by calling Winona County Emergency Management Director Mike Peterson at 457-6498.  They can also all Lewiston's Skywarn Coordinator Mike Plass at 458-8789.  To register on the internet go to
