Education Bill

Governor Mark Dayton signed the Omnibus Higher Education Bill that will invest $250,000,000 in the University of Minnesota and Minnesota State colleges and Universities system. It also earmarks $46,000,000 for direct financial aid for students.

Winona DFL Representative Gene Pelowski, who chaired the House Higher Ed Committee, says students will see a tuition freeze, something they have not seen in awhile.

Pelowski says the state grant program will have the biggest increase he has ever seen and will provide assistance to more than $100,000 low income students affected by the recession.

The average total grant through the program will be $1,740 dollars an additional $181.00 dollars per year.
