Reck Honored

Longtime KWNO-AM announcer and Arcadia bandleader, Ernie Reck, was honored on May 25th, when a plaque in his name was placed in the rotunda of Arcadia's Memorial Park on May 25th.

The Trempealeau County Times reports a private ceremony was held with Reck's daughter and grandson in attendance to honor Reck who died in 1996 at the age of 72.

Ernie was well known throughout the area as the leader of a polka band for many years, the 'Country Playboys.'

He started his KWNO radio show in 1949 and continued it until the time of his death.

The program itself went off the air in late 2012 and had been hosted by Ruth Gappa, his secretary.

The plaque was the idea of former Ashley Furniture Industries president Ron Wanek who said there would be more additions to the park's rotunda in the future.....
