Police said a 27 year old Winona man was jailed Friday night on suspicion of felony counts of second and fifth degree assault.
Deputy Police Chief Tom Williams said Brian Kenneth Larkins was cited after being involved in what started out as a verbal altercation with a 52 year old woman in the 500 block of West Fifth Street.
Williams said when officers arrived on the scene they discovered the woman bleeding from the wrist. She was taken to Winona Health by private vehicle where she was treated for a deep lacerations on the hand.
Larkins was patted down by an officer who discovered an open folding knife in Larkins' back pocket. He also said he was punched by the woman. Williams said Larkins denied using the knife on the woman.
Williams said the knife was sent to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension for DNA analysis to see it contains blood from the woman.
