Fire officials say seven people were displaced Monday night when a fire broke out in an apartment house at Ninth and Minnesota Streets.
Assistant Fire Chief Jim Multhaup said the fire started on the exterior of the building low to the ground and spread upward quickly because of the vinyl siding and got up into the eves.
One of the three apartment units was completely destroyed and the other two had significant heat and smoke damage.
Multhaup said the destroyed apartment was occupied by a mother and three children. A single female and two males occupied the other two.
He said the exact cause of the blaze is being investigated but officials believe is was no criminal intent.
Multhaup said the male occupants of one of the apartments smelled smoke and went outside and discovered the fire in progress.
He said the Red Cross was able to provide temporary housing for the occupants.
There were no injuries.....
