They may be late this year but the strawberries are ready for picking.
The "Berry Patch" located near Centerville, along Highway 35, opened for business on Monday. The opening had been delayed for a few weeks because of the exceptionally cool spring weather. The Berry Patch opens at 9:00 a.m. each day and remains open until they are sold out.
The Minnesota Department of Agriculture says metro area strawberry growers are expected to open next week with the peak coming during the July 4th, holiday weekend. Blueberries and raspberries are also expected to ripen one to two weeks later than usual.
