Winona Police Chief Paul Bostrack said an officer was forced to draw his gun when a juvenile male approached the officer with a large butcher knife late Wednesday.
Bostrack said the officer was called to a residence in the 250 block of East Ninth Street just after 10:00 p.m. when a woman called to report the 15 year old boy had threatened to harm himself. When the officer arrived the youth approached him and the officer drew his weapon telling the boy to drop the knife.
Bostrack said a more serious incident was averted when the male complied. Bostrack said the male was cited with domestic assault causing fear and was held in custody. The woman was not harmed.
