Recent rains have caused the Mississippi River, which is adjacent to Merrick State Park, to rise and as a safety precaution the south, group and island campgrounds will be closed.
Department of Natural Resources official's say the north campground remains open and is not affected by high water.
Based on U.S. Corps of Engineer projections, the river is at or about its crest and expected to remain there for about a week before it begins to recede. If no heavy rains fall, park staff hopes to reopen closed areas by mid-July.
Merrick State Park is located in southwest Wisconsin, about 40 miles north of La Crosse.
