Winona State Golfers Receive Academic Honors
Three members of the Winona State women’s golf team have been named to the WGCA All-American Scholars team. Senior Paige Schmidt and sophomores Katie Blegen and Kelly Blegen earned the honor for their performance in the classroom during the 2012-13 academic year. To qualify for the WGCA All-American Scholar team, a student-athlete must hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50.
Schmidt, who is making her second consecutive appearance on the All-American Scholar team, graduated in May with a Nursing degree. The senior led Winona State with an 81.6 stroke average while posting five top-ten and seven top-25 finishes in eight events played.
Kelly Blegen, a Nursing major, finished the season third on the Warrior squad with an 88.9 stroke average while posting three top-25 showings including a tie for 25th at the NSIC Championship.
Katie Blegen, also a Nursing major, posted her first top-25 finish of the season with a 13th-place showing at the Warrior Invite. She averaged 90.6 strokes per round on the season, good for fourth on the Warrior roster.
